💰 FAA ACCOUNTANCY — The 30-Mark Plan

Every chapter ranked · what to learn · what to expect

Section: Accountancy & Book Keeping · 30 of 120 marks (25%) · 27 chapters · 600 MCQs · 2 solved papers. Companion: overall strategy lives in FAA-MASTER-PLANthis file is accountancy only, in depth.

Why this section decides your result

It is the largest single block tied with GK — but unlike GK it is finite and closed. The syllabus is one book, the question bank is 600 MCQs, and two real papers show exactly what gets asked. GK can ask you anything. Accountancy cannot. This is the most controllable 30 marks on the paper — target 24+/30.

⚠️ The single most important pattern

The paper changed shape between the two years.

  • 2022 = a fundamentals paper → Ch 2 + Ch 5 + Final Accounts = 18 of 30
  • 2024 = an applied-finance paper → Taxation 5 + BRS 4 + Costing 3 = 12 of 30, and Ch 5 + Final Accounts scored ZERO

Do not gamble on one shape.

  • Your floor = the steady chapters that appear every year: Ch 15, 16, 17, 22, 3, 4, 19, 1, 6, 717–20 marks available regardless of which shape the paper takes.
  • Your upside = the volatile pair: Ch 5 (7 marks) and Final Accounts (6 marks). When they show up they are huge; when they don't, they're zero. Strategy: lock the floor first, then buy the upside.

PART 2 — Priority tiers & time budget

Assume ~55 study hours for accountancy across 11 weeks (≈ 5 hrs/week).

🔴 TIER A — the floor (22 hrs) · do these first, no exceptions

ChChapterHrsWhy
15Bank Reconciliation56 marks · rising · 37 MCQs · most reliable chapter in the book
16Partnership Accounts55 marks · rising · numericals repeat in form
2Basic Accounting Terms36 marks · pure definitions · fastest return
5Double Entry & Journal57 marks in 2022 · underpins every other chapter
3Accounting Concepts23 marks · contains the most-repeated question in the paper
4Accounting Equation12 marks · appears every year · one formula
22PFMS13 marks for a 7-page chapter — the best ratio in the book

🟠 TIER B — the growth area (16 hrs)

ChChapterHrsWhy
23Taxation (Direct + GST)85 marks in 2024 · 100 MCQs · ⚠️ see Part 5 — the law changed
24Cost Accounting43 marks · prime cost & marginal costing are formulaic
25Budgetary Control2pairs with Ch 24 · definitions only
17Single Entry23 marks · statement of affairs is a repeat question

🟡 TIER C — the reliable singles (10 hrs)

Ch 1 Introduction (1) · Ch 6 Voucher (1) · Ch 7 Ledger (1.5) · Ch 10 Trial Balance (1.5) · Ch 19 Audit (1.5) · Ch 12–14 Final Accounts (3.5) Each gives 1–2 marks nearly every year. Cheap, fast, and Final Accounts is your volatile upside.

🟢 TIER D — skim only (7 hrs)

Ch 8 Subsidiary Books · Ch 9 Cash Book · Ch 11 Financial Statements · Ch 18 Financial Mgmt · Ch 20 Social Accounting · Ch 21 Social Audit · Ch 26 IFMS · Ch 27 Developments Read the short version, do the MCQs, move on. Ch 9 and Ch 8 have 40 MCQs between them but almost no PYQ presence.

PART 5 — 🔮 Accountancy-specific prediction

🚨 The Income-tax Act, 2025 — your notes are out of date

The law changed on 1 April 2026 — before your exam

The Income-tax Act, 2025 replaced the 1961 Act with effect from 1 April 2026. Your Ch 23 notes and MCQs Q501–550 are written on the old Act and quote AY 2020-21 / 2021-22.

Simplified language; tax rates unchanged

Learn both vocabularies. The concepts (residential status, heads of income, charging section, GST mechanics) are unchanged — only the terminology and section numbers moved. ⚠️ MCQ Q505 ("Assessment year means 12 months from 1 April…") and Q506 ("Previous Year for AY 2021-22") now use superseded framing.

✅ The four "missing" topics are now COVERED

They were absent from the book, so I added sourced addenda to the relevant chapters:

These four gaps cost 4 marks in 2024 (Q48, Q53, Q56, Q57) plus Q97. Nothing in the syllabus is now uncovered.

PART 7 — Attempting accountancy in the exam

The section is Q31–60 (2024 pattern) or Q81–110 (2022 pattern) — check where it sits before you start.

1stEvery theory/definition question — concepts, terms, PFMS, audit, voucher, golden rules. These are 10–20 seconds each

SkipAnything on ratio formulas or specific tax sections if you didn't cover them — don't burn 3 minutes on 1 mark

Realistic split of 30: ~18 theory + ~12 numerical. If you own the theory you already have 18.
